Hear from Greg Cockburn, Head of Hyperscale Cloud at AC3, as he runs us through his thoughts and tips to improve your organisations operational excellence.
"Hi, my name is Greg Cockburn and I'm the Head of Hyperscale Cloud here at AC3.
The Operational Excellence pillar of the AWS Well-Architected Framework focuses on running and monitoring systems and continually improving processes and procedures.
Key topics include: automating changes, responding to events, and defining standards to manage daily operations.
In this pillar, organisations should perform operations-as-code, make frequent, small, reversible changes, frequently refine operational procedures, and anticipate and learn from failure.
Common gaps that we see when performing reviews include: human-centred operations, as opposed to code and automation, and organisations having no defined operational procedures to follow, and therefore repeating past mistakes.
My quick tip to you; break this pillar down into two areas, one focusing on moving towards a code and automated centred approach to your daily operations.
And secondly, define your operational procedures and step changes, which can start off as simple as a few dot points.
Across both of these areas, remember to keep the small, reversible changes approach to continue to improve.
If you would like us to perform a Well-Architected Review for your organisation, please reach out."
